Sharjah Sustainable City is the first sustainable master-planned community in the Emirate of Sharjah. The development aligns with UAE’s national efforts related to the food-energy-water nexus as it provides practical solutions related to food security, water and energy management, as well as natural resources conservation.
The city contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG6, focused on access to water and sanitation for all, and SDG7, which among other things, calls for ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services and increasing substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.

Powered with renewable energy, the city aspires to achieve Net Zero Energy, treating almost 100% of its wastewater for landscape irrigation and maximizes recycling to divert waste from landfills. Besides promoting walkability and the use of clean mobility, the city is also home to facilities such as greenspine with biodomes that encourage local farming and includes vertical farms to produce chemical-free leafy greens and vegetables.
